Why being humble is good
Think critically about the reasons for these changes. In our culture, those who we perceive as great are often put on a pedestal. That's why it's so important to be a humble leader; ego has no role in a place of power.
In your journal, write about those in leadership roles that you admire. Then take a deeper dive and determine the reasons behind that admiration. Why do you look up to them?
What traits and characteristics do they possess? How can you carry these virtues into your own life? Humility is not something we can just achieve; it is so much more than that. We need humility to become better people. Therefore, humility is a construct of human behavior. As mentioned before, behavior in the ring reflects humility. Keep a positive attitude and make sure you thank your coach after every session.
Humility begins with accepting who we are and what makes us human. As a result of this, you gain control over your attitude and outlook on life. Remember you don't know the limits of your own abilities. Successful or not, if you keep pushing beyond yourself, you will enrich your own life--and maybe even please a few strangers. Being humble is an important life skill. With it, we can choose to live a happier life.

Here are some examples of what it means to live with modesty and humbleness. Being coachable and allowing criticism to fuel development rather than resentment. Self-esteem is how you feel about yourself. Being humble, however, does not mean having a poor opinion of yourself, but rather accepting yourself and your many good qualities, as well as your limitations , recognising that others also have good qualities and are equally valuable.
For many of us, humility is one of the hardest traits to develop, because it has to start from a recognition that you are not always right, and that you do not have all the answers. It is relatively easy to be humble when you are at the bottom of the tree, as it were: new in a job, or very junior. The more senior you get, however, the more likely you are to have people looking to you for answers, and the more you find yourself believing that you can help.
If you are not careful, you can reach senior positions—just the moment at which you most need humility—believing that you are more or less infallible. To try to cultivate humility, you may want to try one or more of these activities:. A key quality of humbleness is to value others and enable them to be heard. Spending time listening to others, and drawing out their feelings and values, enabling them to express themselves, is a very powerful way to start to understand this. It is important to remember that you are not trying to solve their problems, or answer them: just listen and respond to them as a fellow-human.

According to scientists, humble people have an accurate picture of themselves—both their faults and their gifts—which helps them to see what might need changing within. The more we become aware of our inner lives, the easier it is to see where unhealthy beliefs and actions might be limiting us.
Noticing and then accepting those parts of ourselves that are wreaking havoc and that require us to change calls for self-compassion, or treating oneself with kindness and understanding. Once we accept what needs changing, then we can start the process of transformation. Rather, turn on the light. Very simply, gratitude can make us less self-focused and more focused on those around us—a hallmark of humble people.
Indeed, a recent study found that gratitude and humility are mutually reinforcing. Expressing gratitude can induce humility in us, and humble people have a greater capacity for conveying gratitude. Perhaps the key to humility is seeing life as a journey towards cultivating those qualities that bring out the best in ourselves and others and make this world a better place.
And this journey is not just for the average person, but one that many of our greatest leaders have embarked upon. To close with the words of one who knew humility, Nelson Mandela:.

You can never have an impact on society if you have not changed yourself…Great peacemakers are all people of integrity, of honesty, and humility. For them, business strategy is more a matter of repetition than imagination. Leaders who think and act as if they know everything put themselves and their companies at risk of going under.
