Batman how does alfred die

Fans don't need to go back and read every issue to catch up, but accept that… Bane truly defeated Batman. In the dark knight's defense, Bane may not have been able to pull it off without help from Thomas Wayne, the Flashpoint Batman now transplanted into the main DC Universe. Bruce's father had his reasons, taking the vanquished Batman and Martha Wayne's body into the desert to force a family reunion which Bruce luckily foiled.

Now, Thomas has returned to act as the Batman of Gotham City completely subservient to Bane's venom-fueled command. Tracking down the villains who are trying to evade service to Bane isn't all that different from Thomas's normal patrols, with one key difference: "villains go down, heroes go out. One relayed to Damian by Tim Drake… who promptly ignores it to attack Thomas the first chance he gets. The promise?

If a Bat appears in Gotham, Alfred dies. Heroes like Tim Drake, Damian Wayne, and Barbara Gordon may be able to evacuate the city in a matter of minutes, but Bane and Thomas claimed the one hostage that a Bat hero simply couldn't endganger. At least that's how Tim described the situation to Damian when trying to talk him down in Batman If they try anything, Alfred dies--it's the perfect move for Bane to make, like so many before that led to this very victory.

Unfortunately for everything be involved… this is Damian Wayne we're talking about. And no villain will ever be as interesting to Damian as the odd Batman of another world who managed to beat his unbeatable father. It's an entertaining fight, with Thomas Wayne as stoic as ever now that he's finally met his grandson--seemingly knowing exactly what kind of son the Batman would raise. Upon regrouping, Alfred offered that perhaps this lack of conclusion was the conclusion, but he was proven wrong when Lincoln March revealed that he killed the Court and that he believed himself to be Bruce Wayne's long lost brother.

Main article: Batman: Death of the Family. When the Joker returned to Gotham after a yearlong absence wearing his own face as a mask, he initiated a plan to take out all of Batman's allies to return to a simpler time when it was just Batman vs.

Among his first attacks, Joker went to Wayne Manor and ambushed Alfred, beating him senseless with a hammer before abducting him for a "party" he was throwing. In a recording he left at the scene, Joker claimed to have blinded Alfred with chemicals directly to the eyes. Though the Joker claimed to know the entire Bat family's secret identities, Batman believed it was a bluff and that Joker had only targeted Alfred due to his publicity as Bruce Wayne's butler and connection to Batman Incorporated.

After the Joker defeated and kidnapped the rest of the Bat family, he brought Batman to his "party", where he revealed Alfred was not actually blinded but had been Jokerized with Joker Venom. As Batman broke free from his constraints and defeated the Joker - discovering that the claim about their identities was a bluff - Alfred forcibly overcame his Jokerization and tried to keep the family together as they themselves succumbed to the Joker Gas. When Batman returned to them, he was able to properly cure them, and Alfred returned to Wayne Manor, though a wedge had been placed within the Bat family from the whole ordeal.

As a mysterious malefactor orchestrated a yearlong attack against Batman, Alfred aided from the Batcave. To his surprise, his adult daughter Julia Pennyworth surfaced in Gotham, eager to meet her father and aiding Batman's quest for justice.

However, upon working with Batman on a mission to Hong Kong, Julia was badly injured, and Alfred nursed his daughter back to health from the Batcave. However, the conspiracy against Batman went deeper than expected, as the villain Hush , revealing himself to be a sub-conspirator, infiltrated Wayne Manor and injected Alfred with the Scarecrow's Fear Toxin.

Thomas Elliot, Hush had Alfred condemned to Arkham Asylum for the mental strain he himself caused as another attack on the Bat family. Though Alfred was detained in Arkham, the villains there were working on their end of the conspiracy, trying to resurrect the villain Deacon Blackfire with magic. However, due to the resurrection clashing with the Spectre under the asylum, the building was sucked into a magical whirlpool and destroyed, with inmates fleeing en masse to escape death.

Alfred managed to survive the disaster and actually partnered with the villain Bane to escape the wreckage. Though they worked good together, when Alfred and Bane finally arrived at a remote Batcave location that Alfred could use to signal for help, he betrayed Bane and activated the location's defense system to knock him out so as not to reveal his true connection with Batman. Gotham continued to get worse and worse until Batman and his allies finally gained control of the city and defeated the man behind it all.

Main article: Batman: Endgame. When the Joker came out of hiding yet again, having pretended to be the Arkham doctor Eric Border for a year, he had decided to initiate one final fight with Batman to finally end their conflict. Having known his secret identity for some time and finally deciding to use it, the Joker attacked Bruce's most sensitive weakness and even managed to infiltrate the Batcave.

Though Alfred tried to fend the madman off with a shotgun, the Joker was able to heal from the blasts due to the Dionesium in his spine and counterattacked by chopping off Alfred's right hand with a meat clever. Batman managed to defeat the Joker, but the two perished together in the caves beneath Gotham.

The city celebrated the life of Batman and attempted to heal from the attack but, even two weeks later, Alfred couldn't accept Bruce's death and refused to have his hand reattached in the hospital, saying there was nobody to mend anymore. However, Bruce was resurrected by a small pool of Dionesium , that revived him without his memories of being Batman. Upon seeing Bruce again, Alfred was overjoyed and took advantage of the opportunity for Bruce to live a normal life without the stress of his parents' murder or the burden of being Batman.

Whenever anyone from the Bat family or Justice League would try to reintroduce Bruce to his old life, Alfred would shoo them off, determined to let Bruce live the life he deserved. Besides, there was a new Batman that filled the mantle. Alfred's charade couldn't go on forever though as Bruce discovered more and more clues about his past life, even discovering the Batcave.

Bruce decided that Gotham needed him as Batman again and used a machine he had previously built to give him all his old memories of being Batman again against Alfred's wishes. Alfred was grafted a new right hand using advanced medical technologies in order to return to the status quo. After a months-long campaign against Batman orchestrated by Bane and an alternate-reality version of Thomas Wayne , Bane had gained control of Gotham City and turned it into a city of Bane.

During a major assault on Batman's life, Alfred is reunited with his long-absent daughter, Julia Pennyworth, an agent of the Special Reconnaissance Regiment, when Batman finds her in Hong Kong and takes her back to Wayne Manor for medical treatment after she is stabbed with a samurai sword through the chest by a Chinese gang boss the two were hunting. Although Julia is initially hostile to Alfred, feeling that he has wasted his life going from a soldier to tending to a fop like Bruce Wayne, after Alfred is attacked by Hush and infected with a fear toxin, Julia discovers the Batcave and takes on her father's role to coordinate the Bat-Family's efforts.

Alfred is briefly transferred to Arkham before it is attacked as part of the conspiracy, but he manages to survive the explosion and trick Bane into helping him reach an emergency cave Batman had installed under the asylum, the cave's defences knocking Bane out and allowing Alfred to call for help. When Hush was briefly kept prisoner in the Batcave, he managed to break out of his cell and lock Alfred in it before sabotaging the Bat-Family's equipment via the Batcomputer as they fought various villains, including crashing the Batwing with Batman still in it.

However, he was swiftly returned to captivity when Alfred escaped the cell and knocked Hush out, Alfred harshly informing Tommy that he was hardly going to be locked up in his own home. When the Joker mounted his final assault, feeling that Batman had 'changed the rules' in their last confrontation, he broke into the Batcave and cut off Alfred's hand. Julia was able to get her father swift medical treatment and he was reported to be in stable condition, but Alfred falls into a deep depression after Bruce's apparent death, even rejecting the idea of having his hand reattached as there was no point without Bruce to serve.

However, after Bruce is discovered to be alive but with no memory of who he is or his life as Batman, Alfred tells Bruce everything that had happened in his life up to the point of the creation of Batman, but accepts Bruce's request not to learn any more, hoping that this would give Bruce a chance at a life without pain and the burning desire to be Batman, allowing his life as Bruce Wayne to finally begin.

However, when the new villain Mr. Bloom launches a mass attack on Gotham, the amnesic Bruce pieces together enough information to deduce that he was once Batman, and convinces Alfred to subject him to a machine that will theoretically download all of his memories as Batman into his mind. Bruce's original plan was for this machine to be used to create a series of clones of himself that could be programmed to continue his mission, but although the process failed because simulations confirmed that the human mind could not handle Batman's trauma, Bruce comes through the process by having Alfred take him to the point of brain-death and then download his memories onto his blank brain.

After Bloom was defeated, Bruce arranged for Alfred have his hand reattached. However, Damian eventually decided to attempt to stop them. After capturing the teenager, Bane went through with his threat and broke Alfred's neck, killing him. Alfred has taken on the role as Bruce Wayne's surrogate father after the death of his parents. Aside from that, Alfred is loyal, intelligent, caring, hardworking, tireless, sometimes sarcastic, wise, brave, bold, protective, kind and fatherly.

Despite occasionally worrisome about Bruce's safety, he none the less supports him in his crusade to rid Gotham of crime as Batman and is very resourceful to him. Alfred's father, Jarvis Pennyworth , had previous served the Wayne family as their butler prior to his employ. His death motivated Alfred to take over the position to the Wayne family. Alfred also has a brother named Wilfred , an accomplished theater actor, and a niece, Daphne.

Neither have been involved in his line of work, though have been involved in several of Batman's cases. Through her, Alfred had a daughter, Julia Pennyworth. Unlike her parents, she was initially a journalist, though was involved in several of Batman's cases. During the New 52, Julia was reintroduced as Alfred's daughter with an unnamed woman. Similar to her father, Julia became involved in espionage and military organizations, such as MI6 and Special Reconnaissance Regiment.

Like her father, Julia is aware of Batman's dual identity. Though more of a genetic template, Alfred arguably serves as the "biological father" of the clone. William Austin was the first actor to portray Alfred, defining the character to the recognizable version known today. He was replaced by Eric Wilton in the followup serial. In one of the last episodes of the series Batgirl accidentally finds out that Alfred is Batman's secret accomplice - hence Batman is Bruce Wayne; however at the same time Alfred finds out that Batgirl is Barbara Gordon - so neither can expose the secret identities of Batman, Robin, and Batgirl.

Michael Gough played Alfred in all four films reprised the charter in OnStar commercials and a audiobook. He also helps Bruce open up to having a family after the latter showed his fear of being part of one. Efrem Zimbalist Jr. This version of Alfred combines elements from Pre-Crisis and Post-Crisis continuities; Alfred has been serving the Wayne Family since before Thomas Wayne's death and helped his young charge assume the Batman identity, but was also revealed to be a former agent for British Intelligence.
